The Value of the Person!

Dear Friend,

When a divisive spirit is abroad in the land, we need voices that can point the way to hope and healing.

Jesus said, “Love one another” John 13:34 and the Apostle Paul, “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” I Thessalonians 5:11*

Wayne Alderson was a leader in the steel industry who chose to lead in a different manner than the typically confrontational and intimidating approach of the corporate management of his day.

He called it the, “value of the person: love, dignity and respect.” In a simple, yet immensely profound way, this valuing of persons captures the words of Jesus and Paul to love and to build up.

The next time you speak to someone, or post something on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or some other platform, ask yourself, “Do my words affirm or divide? Even if we differ in points of view, do I grant to the other person love, dignity and respect?”

“Lord, may the words of our mouths and the actions of our hearts value people, the very people you have created in your own image. Amen.”

Observe the divisive spirit, the "non-valuing" of people going on in our society today, and ask yourself, "Do I contribute to this in any way and if so, "how?"

How can you, will you, shift how you communicate and treat others such that even if you disagree with them, you find ways to value them - as persons created in the image of God.
