The Power of Microgroups

Dear Friend

My friend Greg Ogden introduced me to the concept of microgroups a long time ago! (see his book “Discipleship Essentials”.)

We often think of small groups with anywhere from 6 to 12 people in them but a MICROgroup has only 3 or 4 people!

We see many microgroups in the New Testament:

Peter, James and John              Mary, Johanna and. Suzanna

Mary, Martha and Lazarus        Paul, Silvanus and Timothy

The power of participating in a microgroup is its capacity to deepen your love for Jesus and your friendships with others.

I describe a microgroup as tiny church! You study scripture, share lives and pray for one another!

This is much like the early church of Acts 2:42, “And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

ACTION STEP: Invite two or three people to join you for an hour a week for seven weeks! Spend the time in Word-Share-Prayer. Study the Bible for 30 minutes (such as the Book of Philippians). Share your lives with one another for 20 minutes (blessings and concerns). Prayer for one another for ten minutes. Adjust the times as helpful. Meet in person or meet by Zoom!

After seven weeks, you may decide to keep going or end your group which frees each of you to begin a new microgroup with others!
