Look Up in Lent!

Dear Friend,

What will your focus be during this season of Lent?

Lent is the season of the church year that begins with Ash Wednesday and ends with Easter Sunday.

Typically, our focus during Lent is downward, inward as we review our lives, confess our sin and walk with Jesus during his final somber days in Jerusalem.

However, remember Hebrews report that Jesus, for the joy set before him, enduring the cross. Jesus in the most “down” experience imaginable, looked up!

Take on some spiritual discipline this year that will help you “look up” and connect more deeply with the Lord who loves you.

For example, read a half-a-chapter of Luke every day through Easter or memorize a Psalm such as Psalm 23 or Psalm 100.

Allow the joy of Jesus to renew your spirit right now and every now!

1. This Lent choose to look down and up - down, inwardly confessing sin and in humility being open to new patterns, and also up, seeking the joy of the Lord who loves you!
2. People often "give up" something during Lent - some food or pastime. This Lent, will you "take on" something? Like reading half a chapter of the Gospel of Luke every day through Easter? Or memorizing Psalm 23 or Psalm 100? Or another such practice?
